“I’ve become a better person because of the job and because of them and the responsibilities you have,” said Dasher.

He said he has loved watching his students progress from the beginning of the school year until the end.

“I hope they love music forever,” Dasher said. “I hope that’s something that’s important to them in their lives.”

He’s inspired many students over the years, including one former student who is returning to Springstead High School to take over his position when he retires.

“He’s got trophies and he has banners on the walls and he has all that. But when you touch a life so much that they want to follow in your footsteps. I mean, that’s the epitome of what a legacy is,” said Dana Pearce, the school’s principal.

Dasher says that former student has been working alongside him throughout the year to prepare for the role.

He says in retirement he plans to travel and help out other band programs.
