On Friday, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties celebrated a major milestone as they welcomed their 800th family into a new Habitat Home.

This Habitat affiliate has been around since 1985. Just six years ago they were celebrating their 400th home built in the community. But under the leadership of President & CEO Mike Sutton, Habitat of Pinellas and West Pasco has become the top affiliate in the nation in terms of new home builds. This year they are on pace for 70-75 new home builds.

Their 800th Homeowner is Brianna Clayton, a single mom to daughter Paisley. The two now have a safe and affordable place to live, as Brianna earned a zero-interest mortgage through the Habitat program. This program requires homeowners to attend 32 homebuyer education classes and complete between 350 and 450 sweat equity hours.

Brianna was priced out of renting in 2021 due to the affordable housing crisis that has seen apartment and house prices soar.

Brianna and Paisley no longer have to live in a bedroom with all of their belongings put away in a storage unit. They now have a forever home after partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties.
