As many restaurants have, Capital Tacos has experienced economic setbacks due to COVID-19 restrictions, but they are still going above and beyond to support healthcare workers on the front lines. Josh Luger, one of the owners of Capital Tacos told me a little about their community initiative. “We take pride in serving the communities we operate in. We decided to donate $1,500 of catered meals to serve the heroes serving our community, and we asked the ‘Capital Community’ to match us. They are of course always supportive, and they did! As a result, we’re feeding 400+ folks today alone, including area facilities such as Pasco County Fire Rescue 23 & 37, St. Joseph’s Hospital North, and AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. Some days we’re delivering meals to 10 or more healthcare facilities throughout Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. We’re donating a portion of all Tuesday sales in April towards providing more catered meals so now #tacotuesdays at Capital won’t just taste good – they will do good for the community as well. We are still soliciting direct contributions as well via GoFundMe to facilitate this effort,” Josh said.

“In light of COVID-19, our dining rooms are closed for in-store dining, and we have modified our staffing plan and menu to reflect the realities of running a scratch, made-to-order kitchen that prioritizes safe distancing at all times. Our high-quality and wide-ranging offering was already well-suited for takeout and delivery, allowing folks to turn to us more naturally now. We’ve enabled curbside pickup and now offer our entire menu for delivery. We’ve also done a fair bit of menu innovation. Our new Family Meals, for example, have been a hit,” Josh noted. “We also offer catering services so we’ve had folks place orders for local hospitals and had companies order individual meals for their employees and their families. We also are available via all 3rd party major delivery services with more direct delivery options coming soon.”

“All that said, these are of course challenging times for everyone in the industry. It will truly take a continued commitment from folks in the communities we serve, who value the service and hospitality our teams provide, to support us during this time.” Josh stressed, “We are really all in this together, and we’re blessed by all the support we’ve seen so far.”
