PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — I-75 reopened on Thursday afternoon after a fatal pedestrian crash closed all southbound lanes near the I-275 apex from Pasco County into Hillsborough County earlier that same morning.

The crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. Lanes were closed for several hours.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a pedestrian and his 20-year-old sun were traveling southbound on I-75 when their vehicle became disabled. They got out of the vehicle, and the pedestrian tried to cross I-75 on foot. He was hit by three different vehicles, FHP said.

The vehicles came to a stop on the highway, according to FHP.

Southbound traffic was being diverted off the interstate at SR 56.

Drivers were recommended to use SR 54, Livingston Avenue or Bruce B. Downs as alternates.

Also, commuters couldn’t use 275 as an alternate because the closure was preventing drivers from getting to it.
