DADE CITY, Fla. — Recently, there has been a big focus and work being done to close the broadband gap. Spectrum representatives, along with Senator Danny Burgess and community stakeholders, announced the expansion of high-speed broadband to the Lewis Abraham Lacoochee Boys & Girls Club in Dade City on Tuesday evening.

Spectrum presented a donation of $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club to support digital literacy efforts.

Local and state elected leaders, students, families and the Dade City Boys & Girls Club community gathered at the Lewis Abraham Lacoochee Boys & Girls Club to discuss the opportunities and challenges of rural connectivity.

Charter Communications Director of State Government Affairs Albie Kaminsky, State Senator Danny Burgess, Lewis Abraham Lacoochee Boys & Girls Club Director Eunique Byrd and Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay CEO Terry Carter were at the event.

The Lewis Abraham Lacoochee Boys & Girls Club says this grant will go a long way to improve education and literacy.

“Our focus at the Boys & Girls Club is to close the learning gap of all youth so we take a look at the commitment from Charter Communications and how it will enhance our learning capabilities.” said Carter. “It’s going to be tremendous in our overall outcomes of our youth.”

“Not only have they expanded, but they’ve donated so much to the heart of this community, which is the Boys & Girls Club.” said Burgess. “It’s a great culmination of 18 months of vision and a deep commitment by this company to make sure that we’re doing something very positive by closing the digital divide.”
