PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Zephyrhills man has been arrested and charged with assaulting law enforcement officers at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to a statement from the Department of Justice on Wednesday.

Steven Miles is “charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, civil disorder, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon, and related offenses,” according to the release.

Miles was arrested in Zephyrhills and made his first appearance on Tuesday in the Middle District of Florida before being released “pending further proceedings.”

Miles is alleged to have engaged with police officers protecting the Capitol along with other rioters at the West front of the building. Court documents say that he shoved and attempted to punch officers and later made his way up the stairwell to the Capitol’s Upper West Terrace. While rioters smashed windows to enter the building, Miles is said to have smashed a piece of wood through a window on a Senate wing door and entering the building through that window.

Nearly 800 individuals have been arrested since the riots at the Capitol, including over 250 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
